OV/SA in partnership with ODMA is delighted to announce that the largest clinical optometry conference in Australia, O=MEGA21 will be held at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre from 2-4 September 2021.

The conference will be strongly compliant with the strictest of COVID-safe requirements, to ensure delegates can fully enjoy all that O=MEGA21 has to offer with confidence.

Key clinical conference themes include therapeutics, paediatrics, anterior eye and neuro-optometry, with glaucoma, myopia and contact lenses also well covered.

Up to 22.5 hours of CPD (with assessment) will be available for delegates based on the new OBA CPD learning requirements. This will include up to five interactive hours (with assessment) and up to 12 therapeutic hours (with assessment).

Due to some international travel restrictions international speakers won't be attending this year, but we're delighted with the extremely high calibre of speakers we have confirmed.  Ann Webber, Rod Baker and Tim Fricke will deliver paediatrics content, while David Foresto, Allison McKendrick, Alex Gentle, Daryl Guest, Rosie Dawkins and Anton Van Heerden are also speaking. Most sessions from the conference program will be loaded into the OA Institute of Excellence by 1 April to help members align the content with individual CPD Learning Plans, with final sessions to be uploaded in coming weeks as speakers are finalised and confirmed.

Member Early Bird pricing

Tickets will be available from April 1, and an early bird full conference package for OA members of $499 will be available until April 30.

Fantastic industry support

On the back of the great success of O=MEGA19 and the current strong desire to return to face-to-face events, there has been huge and immediate support for O=MEGA21. Over 90 per cent of the Trade Fair space offered sold within 48 hours of launching the floorplan showing the strong industry desire to come to this event. We are seeing our most recent past exhibitors return, as well as those that have not exhibited for some years as well as new entrants to the industry and are already hearing of new products to be launched at the event.

Places to stay

Great rates have been negotiated by O=MEGA21 for attendees to enjoy, right alongside the conference venue. You can secure your reservation easily and directly with the hotel via these O=MEGA21 accommodation weblinks:

You will just require a valid credit card when booking to guarantee the reservation.

Crown Metropol Melbourne - a contemporary and luxurious hotel situated in the vibrant Southbank precinct

$260 Premium room with WIFI access

Crown Promenade Melbourne - a perfect mix of relaxation and modern styling with floor to ceiling windows in guest rooms

$245 Premium room with WIFI access

These reduced hotel rates along with - potentially - the Government's 50 per cent rebate through the Business Events Grant may substantially reduce the cost of event for all involved.

Government support for attendees

Attendees at O=MEGA21 may want to review the Commonwealth Government's Business Events Grant information. Although eligibility criteria can change as new tranches of funding roll out, attendees could save significantly, given O=MEGA21 has been granted Approved Event Status. The Business Events Grants program provides delegates, including buyers and sellers, with financial support to attend and participate at exhibitions, conferences and conventions.

A new tranche of funding will open mid-April 2021 and close on June 30. When the funding window reopens the eligibility criteria will be clarified. Some information can be found here (this will be updated mid-April).
